My God has a bigger dick than your God

OK, Here's what gets me about organized religion: Literal belief.

I have no problem with the practice of religion. Religions are written in the language of the unconscious, ie. Archetypes. The story of Jesus, the resurrected god born of a virgin mother existed in Egypt (and many other places as well) as the story of Isis and Osiris. Mithraism contains a similar story as well (Jesus even got Mithras' birthday), and also predates Christianity. The fact that the story of Jesus predates his supposed existence does not invalidate it. Quite the contrary, it demonstrates the Universality of the message of peace and love that seems the story's' true contribution to human culture. Literal belief, however, separates people from this message, putting them in the position of having to convince everyone else in the world of the stories' literal truth. The story (being mythology) contains symbolic elements which cannot possibly be true literally, but are perfectly valid when viewed mythologically. So now we have wars being waged, people dying, and for what? To try to prove that, as George Carlin said: "My God has a bigger dick than your God".
